Wisconsin High Speed Rail

by bradkoenig on March 9, 2010

Wisconsin is looking at building a high speed train that runs from Milwaukee to Madison. The Federal goverment would provide an 800 million grant which only cover the start of construction. It would rely heaviliy on goverment subsidies to operate. Looking through the DOT website you can download the current rail report
http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/projects/state/docs/rail-issues.pdf

The report “summarizes critical rail transportation issues, suggests opportunities for public sector involvement, and points out areas where additional research is needed.”

With an excellent freeway system which brings the current commute to an hour, do we really need this? This reminds me of an old Simpson episode that makes fun of the monorail salesperson coming into town. He leads the town to believe that this will solve all their problems. A remake from the poplar musical “Music man”

So what are your thoughts would you ride the rail? If so what you be willing to pay for a round trip between the two cities? I would be curious to hear your thougths!
